https://li.quest can be used without a key, subject to their rate limits. This is not a blanket guarantee for every LI.FI product: Earn on https://earn.li.fi requires x-lifi-api-key, and protected endpoints such as /v1/keys/test require a valid key. For higher routing limits, request a key through the Partner Portal.
Once you have your key you can authenticate all your requests by attaching it in the x-lifi-api-key header:
